The Butte-Silver Bow Public Archives will continue its Brown Bag Lunch series on Wednesday, March 11. Montana author Doug Ammons presents “Dynamic Butte in Time Lapse,” part of a project he has been working on for several years to retell Montana history, and Butte in particular, in a novel way.  He uses historical photos from the 1870s to the 1920s to create detailed time-lapse videos that bring parts of the city back to life.  Starting with several striking videos across Montana, he then focuses on Butte scenes, around the mines, businesses, and neighborhoods, as the ramshackle small town grew into an industrial city like no other. The show is guaranteed to be eye-opening, as well as bring laughs, cheers, and tears for the amazing vitality of Butte’s past.

Ammons is the author of the book A Darkness Lit by Heroes, a detailed account of the 1917 Granite Mountain Mine fire. He is a frequent contributor to the Brown Bag Lunch series.

The presentation will begin at noon and run about an hour at the Archives, 17 W. Quartz. Guests are encouraged to bring a sack lunch. Coffee and water will be provided.

Brown Bag Lunches are held the second and fourth Wednesdays of every month. Upcoming lectures will focus on topics of local interest. For more information, contact the Archives at 782-3280.
