The Walkerville Volunteer Fire Department was established in 1903, with 58 men serving as volunteer firemen. Before the establishment of the Fire Department, Walkerville citizens formed a bucket brigade to combat fires. The Fire Department originally housed their fire truck in a small garage, but over time, the small garage was no longer large enough to house their new fire truck. In February of 1958, the Walkerville Fire Department held an open house to unveil their new, upgraded fire station.
