The Butte-Silver Bow Public Archives was established in 1981 to meet the growing need of a place to house Butte, Montana’s historical documents. The mission of the Archives is to maintain the non-current government record of Butte-Silver Bow as well as historical photographs and manuscripts relating to Butte’s history. We provide public access to our collections, work with educators to connect students with their local history, and provide service to the preservation community of Butte-Silver Bow.
Our patrons come away from the Archives knowing the importance of preserving the documents and photographs in the Archives’ care, given the significant industrial, political, and social history of Butte in the American West.
