Butte High’s football stadium was initially completed in 1938. In 1943, the stadium was renamed in honor of Eso Narache, a former Butte High and Montana Grizzly football star, who was killed during World War II. Naranche Stadium hosted the Bobcat-Grizzly football games from 1938 to 1950, and in 1948, Harry Truman made a campaign stop in Butte where he spoke to a crowd at the stadium. Over time, Naranche Stadium deteriorated and was closed in 1974 because of unsafe conditions. The stadium was reopened after extensive renovations in 2011.
