Brown Bag Lunch – Desera Towle – Jeanette Kelley – Betty Crocker

April 9, 2025 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

The Butte-Silver Bow Public Archives’ Brown Bag Lunch Series welcomes Desera Towle to present about Janette Kelley, the woman who inspired the creation of Betty Crocker.

Rumors swirl. Is Betty Crocker from Deer Lodge? Who is the woman behind Betty Crocker? Learn the truth as Janette Kelley, home economist, is unveiled as the “Woman Who Built Betty Crocker” beginning in 1921. “The Deer Lodge Girl,” as she described herself even later in life, established test kitchens, triple-tested recipes, and answered individual letters. An iconic signature unfolds with “The Rest of The Story”.

The Brown Bag presentation will begin at noon on Wednesday, April 9th, 2025, and will last about an hour. The presentation will be held in the auditorium at the Butte-Silver Bow Public Archives located at 17 W. Quartz Street. Guests are encouraged to bring a sack lunch. Coffee and water will be provided.

Brown Bag Lunches are held on the second and fourth Wednesdays of every month. Upcoming lectures will focus on topics of local interest. For more information, contact the Archives at (406)782-3280.
